7 BEHR MARQUEE Paint Problems To Watch Out For

The MARQUEE line from BEHR stands out be one of the best paints in the market. Available for both interior and exterior surfaces, the BEHR MARQUEE boasts an advanced formula that delivers beautiful and durable finishes.

It’s available in more than 1,000 colors and the best part is that it’s advertised as a one-coat formula. So, you’ll save up a lot of time during the application.

Besides its many positive reviews, there are a few problems that people have reported regarding the BEHR MARQUEE paint. And that’s what we’ll be discussing in today’s article.

BEHR MARQUEE Paint

1. It’s Not a One Coat Paint

BEHR advertises MARQUEE as a one-coat paint. However, from the experiences of most people, one coat isn’t enough.

If you follow BEHR’s instructions to only go with one coat, you’ll notice issues such as brush marks and streaks. Or if the wall behind it had a darker color, it would still be visible.

As a result, you are forced to wait for the first coat to dry and then re-apply a second coat to correct these errors.

The problem with BEHR MARQUEE is advertising its product as a one-coat paint, only for its customers to end up being disappointed during application.

In case you follow their one-coat instruction, you’ll have to apply it too thick or heavy and that would cause it to run. So, the best solution is to apply a light first coat followed by a final coat.

Considering that the one-coat coverage is guaranteed, customers who experience this problem have a right to reach out to BEHR and get compensation for the time and money wasted.

2. It is Vulnerable to Fading

When you go through the features of BEHR MARQUEE, the manufacturer praises this paint for being fade-resistant. However, from what I have gathered from customer reviews is that it’s vulnerable to fading.

Homeowners who have painted BEHR MARQUEE on their exterior walls, eventually have to deal with fading within 1 to 2 years. This mostly occurs on painted walls that directly face the sun.

So, if your home doesn’t have sufficient shade, you may have to repaint the BEHR MARQUEE every year to deal with the fading.

The other problem is that this paint doesn’t retain its color very well. Therefore, touching it up can be very problematic because you may end up with some spots sticking out more than others.

3. It Chips and Peels Prematurely

The other BEHR MARQUEE paint problem that you need to be aware of is that it chips and peels prematurely. Did you know that some customers have observed BEHR MARQUEE paint chipping in less than 8 months?

That’s a very short lifespan for such a premium and expensive paint. The peeling issue mostly affects exterior BEHR MARQUEE paint. This problem is more prone in locations that experience harsh weather.

4. Freshly Applied BEHR MARQUEE Paint is Known to Trigger Allergic Reactions

Unfortunately, using BEHR MARQUEE paint comes with some side effects. There have been a couple of complaints related to this paint triggering allergic reactions in painters and homeowners.

Some of the side effects of touching or inhaling BEHR MARQUEE paint include sore throat, watery eyes, and headaches. In some scenarios, people get skin reactions like redness or irritation.

It appears that there are some ingredients in BEHR MARQUEE paint that are not safe! So, if you must use this type of paint in your home, make sure that you’re not exposed to it until it fully dries.

Also, if you have sensitive skin or a weak respiratory system, please keep off BEHR MARQUEE paint completely.

Still, on allergic reactions, I have to mention that several customers have complained that BEHR MARQUEE paint smells like “pee ammonia”.

5. It Dries Very Fast

A fast-drying formula may seem beneficial. But it’s also a double-edged sword. If you’re new to painting, BEHR MARQUEE isn’t ideal for you.

As a newbie, it’s difficult to work with paint that dries too fast because you won’t have room to correct errors.

Therefore, dealing with BEHR MARQUEE paint can be problematic if you lack sufficient experience. Also, a lot of people have complained that it turns blotchy when it dries.

6. It Doesn’t Adhere Well

BEHR MARQUEE is advertised as a paint and primer in one. If you have been in the painting or construction industry for a long time, this will appear as a red flag.

When using normal paint, the primer usually comes first and then followed by the paint to achieve maximum adhesion. How is it possible for a primer and paint to be combined into one product?

This “strange’ formula is perhaps one of the reasons why BEHR MARQUEE paint doesn’t adhere firmly to surfaces.

7. Some BEHR MARQUEE Paints Don’t Hide the Color Underneath

Being a premium paint, BEHR MARQUEE should have no problem hiding the color underneath. However, some colors of BEHR MARQUEE such as orange, yellow, and red seem to find it very hard to hide the paint beneath.

This forces painters to use up to three coats on one surface. That beats the one-coat coverage concept. And it’s also a waste of money and time.

Has BEHR MARQUEE Been Sued for the Above Problems?

BEHR MARQUEE paint problems are so rampant to the extent that there is a class action lawsuit against the company.

Some of the complaints made in this lawsuit are that BEHR MARQUEE is not a one-coat paint as the manufacturer advertises.

Customers have also complained about the paint and primer in one claim which seems to be untrue. The lawsuit against BEHR revolves around breach of warranties and false advertising.

If you are a victim of BEHR MARQUEE paint problems, you can join this lawsuit if you want to be compensated for your troubles.

Is BEHR MARQUEE a Good Paint?

After reading all the above BEHR MARQUEE paint problems, I understand that you may have second thoughts about buying it.

However, besides its flaws, BEHR MARQUEE has several positive attributes that you should familiarize yourself with before making a decision.

BEHR MARQUEE is recognized as a premium paint. Its coverage is pretty decent, ignoring the fact that it’s not a one-coat paint.

As long as you go with two or three coats, you should get good coverage. It’s also relatively easy to apply. Whether you’re using a roller or sprayer, you should have an easy time applying it on your walls.

But please remember that it dries very fast. So, you need to work quickly and you’ll be better off dividing the working area into sections.

Another interesting feature I like about BEHR MARQUEE paint is that it’s washable. That means you don’t have to worry about stains, especially if you have kids or pets.

Besides that, BEHR MARQUEE paint is available in a wide range of colors and sheens. It’ll be much easier for you to find a finish that meets your taste and preferences.

Price-wise, BEHR paints tend to be on the higher side. So, I wouldn’t categorize this brand as budget-friendly.

However, as you can see, BEHR MARQUEE paint does have its selling points and there is a good number of people who have had positive experiences with it.

How Long Does BEHR MARQUEE Paint Last?

BEHR MARQUEE paint has a lifespan of two to five years. This paint will last much longer if it’s applied correctly, with adherence to manufacturer instructions.

However, if you live in an area that experiences harsh weather, you may notice problems such as peeling much sooner.

Does BEHR MARQUEE Have More Positive or Negative Reviews?

I did a lot of digging and on their official website, the MARQUEE line of paint has more positive reviews than negative reviews.

Some of the positive reviews revolve around the paint’s color consistency, fast drying time, stain resistance, and washability.

However, from third-party platforms, like Home Depot, there were numerous complaints that it’s not a one-coat paint. Customers also expressed their frustration on how the BEHR MARQUEE is difficult to work with.
